I'm in!

I finally made it!  I've moved to Cambridgeshire and i'm pretty much settled in my new flat.  What an ordeal moving house is though!

I'm sitting in a rather interesting internet cafe in Cambridge at the moment, listening to some soothing guitar music that they're playing and drinking my cranberry & vanilla tea.  There's lots of books on shelves and a wooden floor, it's also full of very interesting looking people!  Seems like i'm back in 'ye olde times', all very English!

So my life during and since the move...I feel like my right arm has been cut with not having internet at home (hence the reason for not blogging for a while).  How did I ever manage before the internet was invented?  My phone line gets put in on Thursday and I feel like things can return to normal.

The move itself wasn't without it's challenges.  Firstly, Paul, who was going to drive the van up for me is under 25 so they wouldn't insure him and I had to drive it.  That meant that I had to also drive it back and then drive my car back up, bearing in mind that it's 160 miles each way!!!  Then there was the small matter of nearly taking the roof off the van on the low bridge in Ely.  Luckily they've got big signs that flash up when your vehicle is too tall because I missed all the massive signs and stopped just before the bridge.  Karen and Lel had to get out and stop the traffic behind me to allow me to reverse back up the slope - very embarrassing, but also quite amusing.

By the time I got to my flat to meet the letting agent (i've decided all letting agents don't do alot for their money) I was late and found him waiting at the top of the stairs, swearing at me!  I appologised and admitted it was totally my fault, which seemed to pacify him so I could get moved in.  My flat is on the second floor so as you can imagine, the moving in of all my stuff took some time, even with 5 of us doing it.  I was so grateful to everyone for helping me, they really worked hard.  Paul was especially great as he helped me with all the heavy stuff.  Unfortunately my sofa was too big to go up the stairs so it's in a garage at the moment.  Anyone want to buy an auqa leather sofa (despite the name, it's actually green)? :-)  Actually, all joking aside, i'm going to get on eBay when I get my internet access back and sell some of my stuff.  It's time for the golf clubs, decks (if you're like my Dad, you'll need to be told they're record players - turntables!), home gym and several other pieces of memorabilia from previous interests, to all go for good!  Anyway now i'm quite near to a snow slope i'm going to be needing a snowboard so I need the space :-)

So anyway, once everything was moved in I had planned to drive the van back that night.  Slight problem though.  The lights on the back of the van weren't working.  Brilliant.  Probably a blessing because it meant that I had to stay the night in Cambridge and gave me a reason to not have the van back by 8:30am the next morning.

Apart from that everything went really well :-/

So, we had the second of our dinners parties this weekend just gone and it was a total pleasure again.  It was fully booked but 2 of the people that were supposed to be coming couldn't make it due to illness, so Bernadine came along and Karen didn't need any persuading to take the sixth place at the table.  I'm feeling comfortable with catering for 6 people now so we're going to increase the number of places at these events.  Then we'll be in good shape to cater for 30 on the 23rd April at Vita Organic in Soho.  I'll post the photos for the most recent event at the end of this week.

Ok, my car park ticket runs out soon so i'm going to dash.  Normal blogging activities will resume on Thursday, see you then!
